Chatsworth Swimmers Making WAVES Across the South!

WAVES’ Athletes Earn Tops Spots in County & State Championships

Chatsworth residents and WAVES swimmers Colin Riley (14) and Zach Franklin (12) each shined at some recent county, state and regional swimming competitions.  Both swimmers started their swimming careers here with the Chatsworth WAVES—Colin at age 3 and Zach at age 4--and are taking top spots in Cobb County and the state, but both have eyes on national titles.  Who knows, maybe someday we’ll see one or both of these elite athletes in the Olympics!

WAVES 11/12 Boys Shine at the Patty Wilder County Meet

At the Cobb County meet in July, Zach Franklin placed 1st in the 50 backstroke!  The WAVES relay team consisting of Franklin, Aidan Sherlock, John Olsen & Brandon Lamb, took 1st place in BOTH on the 200 Medley & Freestyle relays. Way to go WAVES!!! Zach went on to participate in the GRPA State meet in Gainesville last weekend and took 2nd place in the 50 backstroke and helped Cobb County boys’ relay take 2nd place in the 200 Medley Relay. Zach started his swimming career with Chatsworth as a Little Wave when he was 4 years old!

Zach also recently competed in the USA Swimming LC Age Group State Meet in Savannah placing him as a top 8 swimmer in the state in all of his events.  He qualified as a first alternate in the Georgia Zone Team where he may compete against fellow elite swimmers in the region and beyond.  Way to go Zach!

Colin Riley Making WAVES in the South!

Colin Riley took his first strokes and learned to swim competitively right here in the Chatsworth Pool, under the guidance of Coach Colin McBurnette, at the tender age of 3!  Now 14 and still growing at 6’ 4”, Colin earned one of only eight spots on the Georgia Zone Team.  He will represent Georgia, competing against elite swimmers across the Southeast and beyond.  Recently he was top event/points qualifier in his age group and is currently ranked in 4th-6th place nationally in his events!

This week Colin will compete in the Southern Zone Championships in Greenville, SC.  He’s attempting to bring home a 2nd consecutive title while simultaneously trying to obtain his first junior national cuts and improve his rank.  If Colin improves his rank and times, he will receive a stipend and be invited to train this fall at the US Olympic complex in Colorado.
