First Meet tomorrow & Fun Day Info

    WAVES Families,

Our first meet is tomorrow.  And YES, THERE IS PRACTICE at the normal time tomorrow.  It will be light and coaches will review starts, turns, finishing strong and other meet essentials.  After practice, have your swimmers eat a good meal, drink lots of water, stay out of the sun and have a relaxing afternoon.

    Things to remember:

    • Arrival time: 4:30.  As the host team, we get first warm up at 5:00.  Our concessions stand will be open so come hungry.  When you arrive--swimmers, see a coach about your events. Parents/volunteers check in by writing your initials by your name.  If you are not on the board, count yourself lucky and enjoy the night!
    • What to wear: Team tshirt, suit, goggles, cap (PLEASE MARK EVERYTHING W/ NAMES)
    • What to bring: PATIENCE...really.  It's the first meet and there are bound to be some mishaps.  Take it in stride.  Also, bring towels, chairs, sunscreen, bug spray, and fun activities to keep busy in between races.
    • Parking:  Chatsworth families, PLEASE leave cars at home or park at a neighbors.  Other WAVES families--if you can carpool, please do so.  Use the lot and ONLY the right side of our main road (Derwent) and the right side of street (along parking lot and tennis courts) on the street closest to the pool.
    • Inclement Weather:  The forecast is saying there is a 30-50% chance of scattered thunderstorms.  If there is thunder when the meet starts, there is a 30 minute delay.  DO NOT LEAVE.  We will wait for an hour or more to begin the meet.  Our goal is to get to the halfway point of the meet (event #46 - around 8pm).  At that point, we can end and the winner w/ highest score at that point wins.  Otherwise, we need to reschedule and we DON'T want to do that.  It takes a tremendous amount of time and effort by many, many people (not to mention the amount of money we put out for food) to set up the meet and and we want it to happen as scheduled.
    • Clean-Up:  After a long hot meet, everyone wants to get home as soon as possible.  PLEASE take a few minutes to help put the pool back together. For those interested, many of us meet up at Taco Mac for a cold beverage and snack (it's the parent's version of Fun Day:).

FUN DAY - 10am-11am for all WAVES & Little WAVES swimmers @ Pool

    • Fun Day is for the team only .  Please leave friends at home.  Swimmers under age 12 need  to be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
    • Parents, help us keep Fun Day safe and fun by reminding our swimmers to follow pool rules (no running, pushing, jumping) and the clean up after themselves.
    • This year, there will be more structure to Fun Day.  There are too many kids and we need to dial back the crazy to keep things safe.
      • 10-10:15:  Arrival, breakfast, ribbons, coach talk (no swimming until coaches/guards in chairs)
      • 10:15-10:30:  Free swim & pool games (coaches guarding pool)
      • 10:30-10:45: Little Waves races (an anyone else who didn't swim at meet - ribbons awarded)
      • 10:45-11: Free swim & pool games (coaches guarding pool)

If Fun Day starts to get way too fun, we'll need to hold regular practices or clinics on Fridays.  Fun Day is supposed to be a relaxed social time to celebrate our hard efforts at the meet, but if it gets too wild, we can't continue.  Parents, PLEASE help us keep it safe.

    Thanks.

    GO WAVES!
